Mubasher: The UK legislators on Thursday voted in favour of a proposal to delay the set deal for leaving the EU on 29 March.
A total of 412 votes were pro-delay, compared to 202 votes for no-deal Brexit, according to BBC News.
Brexit may be delayed by three months to 30 June if the UK parliament accepted another referendum to be presented next week, prime minister Theresa May said.
“If they reject her deal again then she says she will seek a longer extension - but any delay has to be agreed by the 27 other EU member states,” BBC reported.
Earlier today, EU’s President Donald Tusk said that he would ask the leaders of the EU “to be open” to grant the UK a long extension of the Brexit deadline if London needs to rethink its approach of leaving the bloc.
The UK’s House of Commons on Wednesday rejected a proposal to leave the EU without a deal.
On Tuesday, the UK parliament rejected May's deal for the withdrawal from the EU.
